Blacksilver Group is a software company in Douala, Cameroon. It starts its own companies and runs them. Ocheso is the first.

Mission: build the software our markets want, and run it ourselves.

What Ocheso is

Ocheso is a platform for running skill-game competitions online. Chess was the first game and checkers the second; the platform is the point. Organisers get pairings, clocks and standings they don't have to argue about. Platforms get opponents that play like people.

The name

Oh-CHESS-oh.

It hides the game we started with, and nods to two others: the oche, the line you throw from, and ocho, eight, for the board.

How we play

How we play.

  1. Trust is the product.

    A result is only worth something if both players accept it. Everything we build starts there.

  2. Correctness isn't negotiable.

    A wrong pairing or a wrong clock ruins someone's day. The database decides who may do what, and our tests try to break it before anything ships.

  3. Built for the markets we're in.

    Phones first. Checkers as well as chess. English and French arrive with Ocheso for Platforms.

  4. Show the working.

    Pairing priorities, tie-breaks and rating maths are written down. When something isn't built yet, we say so, this page included.

  5. We answer for what we ship.

    The people who build Ocheso run it. Every change goes in the changelog, with its date.

    We put the name on the internet.

  2. A platform, not a chess site

    Chess is the first game, not the identity.

  3. Rebuilt from the database up

    Authorisation moved into the database, with the checks to prove it. Tournaments and live play followed the same day.

  4. Agents live

    Opponents calibrated on real games. The API moved to Dublin, beside the database.

  5. Next
